Break out your Hawaiian shirts and your hula skirts for the Bayou Preservation Association's upcoming fundraising event-Lei'd on the Bayou. Event hosts Clayton and Shel Erikson are generously allowing us to take over their bayou-side property for a lavish luau on Thursday, October 4, 2012. Guests can expect fabulous fare, the sounds of timba drums and lots of rockin' on the bayou. So, hang ten and join in the fun by becoming an event sponsor.
Funds raised through this event provide the Bayou Preservation Association (BPA) with the resources it needs to protect Houston's most valuable natural resources-the 2,500 miles of bayous and streams that interlace our city. Water quality is the organization's current concern.
Most rivers, bayous, creeks and streams in the Houston-Galveston region do not meet state standards for clean water. Bacteria are one of the major impairments and come from such sources as improperly maintained sanitary sewer systems, runoff pollution, illegal dumping and animal wastes. Sedimentation from erosion and construction sites, along with trash and floatables, also negatively impact water quality. By supporting this event, you can help make our streams safe for fishing, swimming and paddling and you will contribute to a better quality of life for all Houstonians.
Event sponsors will be treated like island royalty with VIP seating and prominent recognition in all printed materials.
