  Watershed Water Quality

Watershed:  Cypress Creek

Length: 48.2 miles

Watershed area:  306 square miles

Designated uses:  Contact Recreation, High Aquatic Life and Public Water Supply

Water Quality Impairments:  Bacteria and Nutrients

Trends (based on up to 14 years of monitoring data):

            Improving:  Dissolved Oxygen, Ammonia, Sulfate

            Worsening:  pH, Chlorophyll a (algae)

            Mixed:  Turbidity

Discussion:  The water quality in Cypress Creek is not supporting its contact recreation use designation about half the times sampled.  In all cases with the nutrients, it appears that there have been improvements with Waste Water Treatment Plant operations to a degree that ammonia concentrations are decreasing throughout the watershed, however, nitrate, and phosphates are increasing.
