Halls Bayou
BPA Watershed Update November 15, 2011 by Dena Green
Planning and Policy Initiatives: The Harris County Flood Control District is conducting a flood damage reduction planning study of Halls Bayou Watershed called Halls Ahead. The study is a locally driven effort and builds on the previous federal feasibility study that the HCFCD had been conducting for Halls Bayou in conjunction with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
On-the-Ground Projects: The Harris County Flood Control District and City of Houston are partnering to construct the Bretshire Stormwater Detention Basin, which is located along the channel just east of Highway 59. Construction started in September 2011 and is planned to conclude in the fall of 2012.
The East Aldine Management District recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary. To celebrate, they organized a cleanup of Keith-Weiss Park. Partners in the cleanup included: Bonding Against Diversity, the Boy Scouts, Harris County Sherriff's Department, YMCA, Harris County Emergency Corps, Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services, City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and the Mac Arthur Generals.
